We Fight For Our Air
We are the people living along the South Circular. We live and we work here, we get together to learn, love and play here. Yet everyday, every minute, our communities breathe in illegal levels of air pollution.
This pollution is hurting our community. It’s hurting our children.
This is our story. This is our fight. Join us. Support us.
The single and the comic are part of an ambitious cultural movement focused on climate action and climate justice called Season for Change, led by Artsadmin and Julie’s Bicycle, and supported by Arts Council England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Air pollution is the largest environmental risk to health in the UK. It causes low birth weight and increases asthma attacks, strokes, lung cancer and heart disease.
The South Circular is one of London’s most polluted roads. It runs directly through dense residential areas. Right now, our communities can’t escape its life threatening effects – but we want things to change.
Research shows that BIPOC communities are disproportionately exposed to higher levels of air pollution. In 2020, an inquest recorded that air pollution killed 9 year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debra. She’d grown up just 25 metres from the South Circular and suffered persistent asthma attacks, resulting in her death.
